GM Motorama Firebird III Prototypes

From GM Motorama Firebird III designer Norm James's sketch on the envisioned Motorama crowd came an innovative set of styling studies, starting around March 1957. The missile had four dominant secondstage fins midway along its length, set at 45 degrees in the launch rail. The Club de Mer's twin windscreens then turned out to be a set of fully separated blisters, as well as the front-end tapered up to a nose inlet patterned as soon as the North American Aviation F100 fighter."

On his own initiative, James launched a fullsized string drawing of these missile/fighter car. It had four fins, keyed in the location for the rear wheels. James isn't certain whether Earl saw the missile/fighter mockup previously, option to a good venture he has, because Earl often roamed the studios after everybody else had left for those night.
